Forums are important for the community and complement the work of the Society. They are apolitical and any contact details you provide are not shared with political parties.
All local residents and traders are invited to attend the meetings. The aim is to offer everyone an opportunity to raise and discuss local issues.
The Police and Westbury-on-Trym & Henleaze Councillors attend most of the Forums; they answer questions on the night or take away action points.
Forums generally take place at Henleaze Library between 7pm and 9pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays each quarter. However, due to Covid-19, only one Forum was held in 2020. We hope to restart Forums in June 2021.
The Henleaze Society’s role
The Henleaze Forum is not part of having membership of The Henleaze Society.
In non Covid times, Bristol City Council encourages local communities to meet at least twice a year. A local organisation in each of Bristol’s wards is invited to facilitate the meetings. Given the size of Westbury-on-Trym & Henleaze ward, Forums are held in both Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze. The Henleaze Society has agreed to facilitate the Henleaze Forums and receives a small grant from the Council to fund printing or other associated costs.
Notes of meetings
Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)
CIL is a pot of money that can be used through Bristol City Council to make improvements to our local neighbourhood; s106 funds have largely been used to purchase replacement trees. This year’s bids need to be agreed with local Councillors by the end of March so now is the time to suggest items for a wish List for 2021. If you want to know more about CIL/ s106 go to www.bristol.gov.uk/people-communities/funding-local-projects. A video is also available on the same webpage. This can be viewed here.
As in previous years, The Henleaze Society (as the facilitator of the Henleaze Forum) will work with members, the Westbury Park Community Association and local residents to prepare funding applications and to prioritise these with our local Councillors. If you have any suggestions, please let us know as soon as possible in order to allow plenty of time before the end of March.
