The city council review of yellow lines in Henleaze is now
underway.
Householders affected by the new parking restrictions, which
brought protests that many of them were unnecessary, have been
given the opportunity to comment on them.
The council say the consultation
“will be used to review the
restrictions and develop a revised
scheme that better reflects the
needs of residents and businesses
in the area”.
As the review deadline was
reached 550 responses had been
received. Any changes, which could
involve removing all or part of
some lines, could start early in the
New Year.
The council say that in carrying
out the review it is “important to
consider the various types of users
of the highway and try to find a
balance between their needs”.
One aspect of the restrictions
the council will be re-examining
during the review is the length of
yellow lines at road junctions.
They say in some cases “where
appropriate” the lines can be restricted
to five metres at junctions.
Cabinet Member for Transport
Jon Rogers, told a recent council
meeting in response to a question
that the review had so far cost
£2,680.
To a further question about the
cost of any changes to the lines he
said it costs approximately £1.20 a
metre to remove them. Over 5000
metres of yellow lines were laid.
