Tesco –
Golden Hill
On 25th June, Tesco's planning application to extend both the size
of its
store on Golden Hill and the variety of goods sold was finally
rejected by the Development Control (North) committee (8 councillors
against
the application and 1 in favour).
Being an out of centre store, it was necessary for the applicant
to
demonstrate that there is a "need" for the proposed alterations. Officers,
consultants and the committee were not convinced by the applicant's
evidence. Public
statements
at the meeting showed that 90% were against the plans.
