Hand car washing and valeting operation in the Tesco car
park. Turned down by council planning
officers after many pbjections by local residents.
But surprisingly, and to the confusion of some local
residents, signage for the scheme has been passed. It was
apparently treated as a separate application and on its own
merits but will only be activated if Tesco were to win an appeal
on the car wash.
There had been many objections to the car wash which included
the erection of a canopy and space for an office, and would take
up nine car parking spaces in the car park.
Objections included ones from The Henleaze Society
and local councillor Clare Campion-Smith. Shirley Phillips, for
the Society, a member of the area`s Neighbourhood Planning
Network, objected to the plan on the grounds of its prominent
position, that it was not sufficiently screened by trees, the
noise, increased traffic and loss of parking spaces.
Other objections came from the Bristol Civic Society and the
Bristol Tree Forum as well as local residents.
Holmes Grove semis Meanwhile an appeal against an earlier
refusal to allow building a pair of semi-detached houses on the
site of four garages in Holmes Grove has been upheld.
