Bristol Free School stays at Burghill Road

Bristol Free School have lost their fight to move permanently in 2012 to the St Ursula`s site in Brecon Road.  They had hoped to reach agreement with the Department of Education and Science, who fund the school, to share the site with E-ACT primary academy who have now opened there.

But independent consultants, commissioned by the Department, have concluded that there are "considerable planning risks".

The Free School opened at Burghill Road in Brentry in September with an initial enrolment of 80 Year 7 pupils - less than the capacity of 150 which will to rise to 750 in five years.

Delays in finalising the permanent site are blamed for the lack of take up. But the School Trust say they are still getting enquiries from parents interested in starting Year 7 this year.

Chair of Governors, Blair King, says: "We are convinced that now the school is a reality and parents can see we really are in business as a local school, pupils numbers will go up".
